transform your home style into a seasonal wonderland

What’s on Boxing Day? Is it cricket, movies and shopping, or the Sydney to Hobart? We experience life in small sections around holidays and vacations. The holiday season of all is upon us and I will admit something. For the first time in a long time, I have the Christmas spirit of my mum. She went off the scale with decorations and treats. Is your family for Christmas Eve, Christmas, or Boxing Day?

While I destroy the kitchen trying to cook, the rest of the house has to get up to holiday speed. What type of tree do you use, if you use one? My father was the sole earner in the family, with mum and us eight kids. There wasn’t excess, but we had what we needed. Some years, my father would improve a tree with lights stretched out in a cone from atop a stand he had welded.

To convince us Santa and the reindeer had been inside our home, the kitchen table would be on its side, with boot prints around and biscuits broken. I am certain that thrilled my mother. However you decorate, something triggers our memories when the Christmas homewares are assembled with a purpose.

Get your Christmas bellflower, palm leaves, ferns, or evergreen boughs ready to bring seasonal nature inside and soften the environment. We all have an innate need to commune with nature, some suppress it. I am not that strong and spend the majority of my time outside. How about you?

What do ya reckon about a Christmas grill verandah? Yeah, keep the Christmas bush back some distance and create a comfortable holiday feel where you spend your time. I like that idea and think I just talked myself into decorating my patio. It will be easier to clean up later, and the HOA will whine.

It doesn’t take much to fill a small home with holiday style, whether Cup Day or the Parkes Elvis Festival. How does one decorate for that? Our surroundings effect our subliminal mind. Dark colours in your bedroom are bad for sleep, and your eyes are closed. Our minds never stop. The only thing we can do is focus on what makes us happy.

When your home is kitted in team colours the mood is set. The Boxing Day Test, the first match, is on a Thursday this year. Will there be any golden ducks? Keep a few Limca in the yeti or packs of ElectroFizz at the ready for morning of the fourth day.

Cover your front door with wrapping paper and a big ribbon because you are a gift, and people should know it. Baubles strung with single colour lights will illuminate the path to your door and prevent arriving or departing over-serviced merry-making accidents.

Regardless of how you choose to boost your holiday cheer, do it. Be safe. We can spread gifts of real value by spreading a smile on our faces. Recent third-party verified double-blind studies show you just smiled. The best decoration you can dust off is your smile.
